The North Massapequa Fire Department will be hosting the organization’s Semi-Annual Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registration on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the North Massapequa Fire Department’s Headquarters (1000 Broadway in North Massapequa, New York) from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. “Months of harsh weather has really taken its toll on our local blood banks. Now is the time to unite in an effort to replenish supplies,” North Massapequa Fire Department Chief Kevin B. Mauro said. “Blood need to be on the shelves prior to demand, because one accident victim may require dozens of pints of blood. We appeal to all those eligible to participate. If you have family members or friends who are willing to donate, please ask them to also support our effort.”
Chief Mauro said the members of the North Massapequa Fire Department take pride in hosting this important drive. “It allows the entire community to join forces with North Massapequa firefighters in saving lives,” he said lexapro pill. “The blood drive is open to the public and all eligible donors are welcome. Donating is quick and easy and is an entirely safe procedure. All materials used during the process are sterile, disposable and used only once…by you. There is no danger of contracting any disease, including AIDS. The pint of blood you donate will never be missed by your body, which manufactures an equivalent amount in 24 hours, but it could mean the difference between life and death to one or more recipients. When broken down into component parts, one single pint of blood can help save up to three lives.
To qualify as a blood donor, a person must be between the ages of 17 and 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.
